Level 2 EV Charger Installation
Brier Creek, Raleigh NC
We installed a hardwired Level 2 EV charger on a dedicated 240V/50A circuit with a clean garage wire run, GFCI protection, and a verified load calculation — permitted and inspected by the City of Raleigh.

Project Overview
This Brier Creek homeowner brought home a new EV and quickly hit the wall every owner does: charging on a standard 120V outlet meant more than a day to reach full charge. The garage had no 240V circuit, and the charger that came with the vehicle was still in the box.
We ran an NEC load calculation to confirm panel capacity, installed a dedicated 240V/50A circuit from the panel to the garage, and hardwired a 48-amp Level 2 charger with GFCI protection—delivering a full charge overnight, every night. The installation was completed cleanly and passed final inspection.
Problem
Level 1 charging on a 120V outlet — 40+ hours for a full charge.
Solution
Dedicated 240V/50A circuit with a hardwired 48-amp Level 2 charger and GFCI protection.
Result
Overnight full charges at a fraction of public-charger cost — inspected and code-compliant.
Project Story
What We Installed and Wired
We added a dedicated EV charging circuit and hardwired Level 2 charger, giving this home fast, safe overnight charging built for daily driving.
Work Included
All work completed to meet NEC and local code requirements
Equipment Upgraded
Level 2 Charger48-amp hardwired unit with Wi-Fi scheduling and cold-weather rating.
50A GFCI BreakerDedicated two-pole breaker with code-required ground-fault protection.
Copper Branch Circuit6 AWG copper conductors sized for continuous 48-amp charging.
Conduit RunClean surface-mounted EMT protecting the run from panel to charger.
Our Work Process
A safe, code-compliant installation requires more than just equipment. Here’s how we executed this Level 2 charger installation from start to finish.
Load Calculation & Planning
We evaluated the panel, confirmed capacity with an NEC load calculation, and planned the wire route from panel to garage. The charger amperage was matched to the vehicle’s onboard limit, and the permit was filed before any work began.
Circuit & Charger Installation
A dedicated 240V/50A circuit was run in protected conduit from the panel to the garage wall. The Level 2 charger was mounted at cable-reach height and hardwired, with a GFCI breaker installed at the panel.
Testing, Configuration & Inspection
We verified voltage, tested a full charging session, and configured the app with an off-peak charging schedule. The installation passed City of Raleigh inspection and delivers a full charge overnight.
Permits Pulled. Inspection Passed. Done Right.
This upgrade is built to NEC code and inspected by the City of Raleigh for your peace of mind.
